Cruise into Cruising with Edwards Holidays

As we sail through National Cruise Month, the cruise team at Edwards Holidays have some suggestions to help you decide the best options for your special holiday. With nearly two million UK holiday makers choosing cruises last year there is now a wider range of cruise ships and destinations than ever before, so this handy guide will get you started towards writing your own adventures.

Step One: Where shall I go?
With cruising popular all year round there is a destination for you out there. Edwards Holidays offer many Mediterranean cruise options, visiting places such as Rome, Venice, Barcelona and Corsica as well as many of the Mediterranean islands.

The Caribbean is also a popular choice, and provides an opportunity to see a large number of cities and interesting sights, whilst if you are looking for something out of the ordinary why not consider South America, Asia or The Arab Emirates.

Step Two:  What type of holiday would I like?
It is always sensible to determine who is going on the holiday with you before you look at the facilities that you need.   If you are a young couple looking for a romantic setting, a family looking for children’s activities, or an older couple looking for a relaxing getaway, then bear this in mind whilst choosing the best ship for you.

Cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean and P&O offer kid’s clubs, ice rinks, cinemas and water activities, whilst lines such as MSC and Princess offer activities more suited to teenagers.

Couples looking for a quieter break could look for a more adult orientated cruise such as Celebrity Cruises or even an adult only cruise, operated  for example  by Cruise and Maritime Voyages, P&O Cruises  and Fred Olsen, who have ships that are for over 18s only.

It is important to look at the itineraries of the ships.  Some trips are more suited to discovering many destinations whilst other trips offer more relaxing time at sea.  If you have a specific destination in mind please speak to one of our cruise advisors and they’ll be happy to guide you in choosing the right holiday.

Step Three: Which ship do I choose?
Once you’ve decided upon your destination and the facilities that you require, the choice of ship is next.  Is size really important?   Royal Caribbean’s Internationals, Oasis Class ships are currently the largest carrying up to 5400 passengers, with over 12 dining options and a wide choice of activities.  Smaller ships such as P&O’s Oriana and P&O’s Arcadia offer a more intimate cruising experience and tend to stop at smaller harbours, though still offer numerous dining options and a wide choice of activities.

Step Four: How do I get to the Cruise Ship?
Edwards Holidays can offer a few hassle-free options to get your holiday off to a smooth start.  Our popular door to port service is the easiest option, offered on selected sailings, with a trusted driver picking you and your luggage up from your own house and your luggage will be transferred for you straight to your cabin.  Edwards Holidays also offers 19 port transfer pickup points in key areas, or alternatively book your cruise through Edwards Holidays to utilise our knowledge and expertise, but make your own way to the port.

Step Five: Let us help!
Come and talk to us, choosing the right cruise for you is exciting and you shouldn’t feel daunted by the options available, as we are always delighted to help and advise.
