Rhod Gilbert Work Experience

Edwards Coaches’ newest recruit caused a stir at the Llantwit Fardre Depot, when TV Personality & Comedian Rhod Gilbert joined the team as a Tour Guide.

As part of his Work Experience TV series, which is currently airing on BBC One Wales, Rhod guided a group of 30 Edwards Coach Holiday passengers around Antwerp & Bruges in Belgium on board the recent Welsh Coach of the Year Winning, Starliner coach. Dressed in the standard issue Edwards’ uniform, Rhod guided the party through a riot of visits to historical cities, brewery & chocolate tastings, museum tours and restaurant meals.

Glyn Bowden, driver for the tour said of his able assistant ‘I have to take my hat off to Rhod. There were a few hiccups, but for his first attempt it went pretty smoothly. The passengers really warmed to him, he had done his homework and was willing to learn. He done us proud!’

Huw Davies, Groups Manager who supervised Edwards’ latest recruit said ‘After a chaotic start and despite Rhod’s lack of organisational skills and timekeeping he managed to win over the group’s hearts and minds with his infectious personality and humour.

Welsh Coach Rally 2013

Edwards Coaches are on the road to glory, driving off as the best coach in Wales, at the UK Coach Rally.

The Neoplan Starliner, a futuristic looking coach that joined the Edwards fleet in November of last year, was pitted against the best looking coaches in the UK at the 2013 Coach Rally held at the Alton Towers Resort.

The coach was marked on the exterior bodywork, interior and legroom, engine, cleanliness, driver's compartment, staff uniform and accessibility of the coach. The coach was commeneded on its striking interior of white leather seating, wooden floor, and excellent panoramic views. Visitors and judges commended on the professionalism and smart appearance of Edwards tour driver, John Laskey, George Zammit and representative Anthony Kerslake.

The UK Coach Rally is a showcase for coaching and coaching people. It celebrates the hard work and attention to detail that goes into the provision of high quality coach transport, and its front line staff. Jason Edwards, Commercial Director said of the win:

'We are thrilled that our new Starliner has been recognised as the best in Wales. It is important to us that our holidaymakers and passengers travel in the finest coaches on the road, as we feel that the coach and the professionalism of our drivers is what can really make or break a holiday'.

The Staliner has already joined the touring fleet of Edwards and has travelled to Lake Garda, London and Holland. It will also be making its TV debut as part of the Rhod Gilbert Work Experience TV Series. With a price tag of £300,000, Rhod won't be taking the wheel, but his best customer service and tour guiding skills will be put to the test on the 3 day tour.

Two more identical coaches will be joining the Edwards fleet in early summer. One has already been earmarked as the new WRU coach with a dedicated livery.
